Social Media Guidelines

Abilene ISD uses social media to engage with and celebrate the achievements of students, staff, and community partners, as well as to provide parents and families with informative and timely updates. Abilene ISD’s official social media channels are open for visitors to share comments or send messages to the district. We welcome your comments and look forward to hearing from you!

All comments on Abilene ISD social media channels are monitored and maintained during regular business and school hours at the discretion of page administrators. We encourage comments that are respectful, constructive, and relevant to the topic of each post. While we welcome all viewpoints and dialogue, we are firmly committed to protecting the privacy and rights of AISD students, parents, employees, and community members.

Therefore, the districts reserves the right to remove inappropriate comments that do not adhere to the following commenting guidelines:

  • Please use words that would be acceptable in a K-12 education setting.

  • Comments are not allowed if they contain profanity, threatening or abusive words, vulgar language, or inappropriate language or content. This includes remarks intended to target specific ethnic, religious, racial, social, gender, or other people groups.

  • Comments are not allowed if they include accusations, allegations, or personal attacks and name a specific student, parent, employee, or community member.

  • Comments are not allowed if they include or expose specific and private information about a student, parent, employee, or community member, including directory information and disciplinary or personal issues. To protect your privacy and the privacy of others, please do not include personally identifiable information such as phone numbers or email addresses in your comments.

  • Comments are not allowed if they include obscene, provocative, or sexually explicit language.

  • Comments are not allowed if they do not pertain to the topic of a specific post made by the page administrator, including photographs or links to photographs.

  • Comments are not allowed if they contain political messages or promotions.

  • Comments may not break any law, confidentiality, or copyright or encourage others to do so, and comments may not represent a person other than the one posting the comment.

  • Comments are not allowed if they violate the Abilene ISD Student Code of Conduct regarding the use of technology and internet or website applications.

  • Comments are not allowed if they include spam, advertisements promoting specific services or products, direct solicitations for funds or fundraisers, or links to other sites including special offers or discounts for district employees. Should you wish to advertise or partner with the district, please contact the Department of Communications.

It is important for everyone in our community to understand that participants are responsible for what they post online. Anyone posting comments contrary to these guidelines may be prohibited from further participation on Abilene ISD’s social media channels.

Social media channels are not intended to replace all official forms of engagement with Abilene ISD. We will make every effort to respond to comments and messages, but will not be able to respond to every post. If you have pressing feedback or questions, please contact your student’s school or submit an inquiry via Ask Abilene ISD for a response from the appropriate campus or department. Members of the news media seeking responses from the district should contact the Department of Communications according to AISD media guidelines and refrain from submitting official media inquiries as social media comments.

We welcome your feedback! If you wish to report an inappropriate comment or other social media concern, contact us at communications@abileneisd.org

Please note: All content related to Abilene ISD business on our social media sites is considered public record and may be subject to retention and disclosure. These guidelines may be updated at any time without prior notice to maintain a positive and informative online community. Thank you for your cooperation and support of Abilene ISD!
